Once they are about four years old, they can transition to a high-backed booster seat, suitable until around age eleven. In the UK, the law requires that children use a car seat until they are either 135 centimetres tall or reach the age of 12, whichever comes first. UK car seat regulations specify that children aged three and above, or those up to 135cm tall, should be seated in the back using a car seat or booster seat with an appropriate seat belt. Children aged 12 and over, or those taller than 135cm, are allowed to sit in the front seat but must use an adult seat belt.

To clean your child's car seat, first refer to the care instructions or labels for specific guidance. Many car seats feature covers that are machine washable. For small spills and everyday messes, simply wipe the area with baby wipes, a damp cloth, and a gentle soap.

A baby should not remain in their car seat for more than two hours at a stretch. Studies indicate that extended periods in a car seat can lead to breathing issues and put strain on a child's spine, hips, and other areas. For longer journeys, be sure to plan regular breaks to allow both you and your baby to stretch and move around.
