There is so much to plan for your little one’s arrival but designing and choosing items for the nursery is one of the most exciting parts of the preparation process. As with everything when you’re a parent-to-be, it can be a bit overwhelming. However, we are here to help with our Nursery Inspiration guide to show you through the must-haves!
Baby will tend to start off in a bedside sleeper, crib or moses basket and then make the transition to a cot in their nursery at around 6 months old. You will also need a good quality mattress that fits the cot firmly. A waterproof mattress protector is also a firm favourite!
*Top tip- What is the difference between a cot and a cot bed?
A cot bed has removable panels to convert to a small bed which is suitable for a toddler.
For such small beings, baby’s come with a lot of things! You will need somewhere to store their clothes, nappies and other items. You can look into a dresser, wardrobe and shelves. Luckily, a lot of brands offer furniture sets which bundle together everything you would need- a 3 piece set usually includes a wardrobe, dresser and the cot. The full, matching sets look beautiful in the nursery and also come at a great bundle price. A win-win! A couple of our favourites are the Silver Cross Finchley and BabyStyle Bordeaux Ash, take a look below.
Changing table and/or mat
Somewhere safe and secure to change your baby is another essential. An additional changing table is a good idea, but fortunately a lot of dressers come with a built in changing surface. A changing mat is also a good idea to keep baby comfortable whilst they’re being changed. These are also transportable around the house, which makes your life easier so baby can be changed on the go. We love the Gilded Bird changing mats,
*Top tip- a wedge design is a bonus as this helps to stop baby from rolling, and you can change them on various surfaces. Always make sure you change your baby somewhere flat and secure.

Keeping baby fed will be one of the most time consuming jobs as a new parent, you will also need to be stationary throughout so you may as well be comfortable! One of our favourites is the Obaby Glider chair, which can be used for not only feeding but story time, bonding and rocking your little one.

Baby Monitors are a great addition to the parenting shopping list. They provide you with the peace of mind that your little one is safe and secure, and helps you get those household tasks done without worrying you’re missing your baby’s cry. We love the Spear and Jackson monitor which allows two way audio and talk as well as a built in temperature sensor.
The Owlet Monitor Duo is perfect if you love technology. Including the Camera and Smart Sock the Owlet allows you to track your baby’s heart rate, oxygen levels and sleep trends all whilst streaming it to your phone.
